Require a would-be law student to first work for a year as a paralegal?

Here's an interesting suggestion from a commenter at the Wall Street Journal's Law Blog (scroll down to 1:42 am May 22):

Require all law school applicants to first work as paralegals for at least 1 year, just as MBA programs require relevant business experience. ...

One classmate i[n] law school told me that of her friends from college who were sure they wanted to be lawyers, and got paralegal jobs in NYC at big firms, only about half still wanted to be lawyers 9 months later.
